Emergent Genetics is a seed and related biotechnology company with operations in the US, Latin America, Europe and India and has a strategic product focus on cotton, rice, wheat and vegetables. As such, it is a world leader in the application of new technologies for development of cotton seed that is resistant to insects and herbicides. Emergent Genetics is the only company offering conventional, transgenic and hybrid cotton world wide.
Sam Dryden says, "Emergent Genetics is dedicated to structuring itself with one eye on the future needs of our customers and another on our global competition. We intend to strengthen the brands that our customers have come to rely upon while sustaining growth and profitability for all stake holders."
Strengthening its global position demonstrates Emergent Genetics' commitment to growing its international business, according to Matt Renkoski, Vice President, Emergent Genetics International, Inc. "We want to leverage our cotton technology and expertise in other countries while simultaneously gaining more access to new germplasm that will ultimately benefit U.S. cotton growers."
Don Threet, Vice President, Emergent Genetics USA, Inc. adds, "US cotton growers will continue to benefit from Stoneville's expanding portfolio of transgenic cotton seed varieties. In the US, it will be business as usual."
Rich in cotton heritage, the Stoneville brand business will continue to be headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, with research & development sites, and seed production facilities located across the United States and internationally. Breeding cotton since 1922, Stoneville was the world's first to commercialize genetically-engineered cotton seed and provides varieties that cotton growers need today to compete in the global cotton economy.
Emergent Genetics is dedicated to building one of the world's premier seed businesses in its selected crops by the integration of plant breeding and biotechnology to develop value added products marketed as agronomically superior seed varieties.
